We are recruiting for an Ecologist

The Role

We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to join our friendly and well-established ecological consultancy team as an Ecologist, in a permanent and full-time capacity.

Nurture Ecology is a busy consultancy based in Jersey and we provide a broad range of ecological services focusing on the protection of wildlife and habitats within the Channel Islands.

As an Ecologist, you will help support the team while also taking charge of your own case load, managing projects through from start to finish, while forming strong working relationships with our valued clients. Everyday tasks could involve undertaking field surveys (e.g for bats, reptiles, birds, botany, invertebrates and amphibian surveys), survey analysis, desk studies, client liaison and producing a range of ecological reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.

We are particularly interested in applicants that have proven experience working at an ecological consultancy and have specialist interests in specific wildlife groups, backed up by Continued Professional Development and licenses.

In addition to our competitive salary and holiday package, we also offer other benefits including an enjoyable working environment in rural Jersey (with free parking), paid membership to a professional body, staff socials and flexible working hours.

About us

  • Nurture Ecology is a highly respected consultancy with an excellent reputation with our clients and fellow professionals;
  • Our projects are highly diverse, ranging from private homes, barn conversions and residential schemes to large government capital projects in both Jersey and Guernsey;

  • We are proud of our highly professional and friendly team and would welcome like-minded, enthusiastic and motivated ecologists to join us;
  • We set ourselves high standards and are always improving through course-based and in-house Continued Professional Development;
  • Our aim is to conserve our Island wildlife by providing a solution-based approach for our clients.

  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject;
  • At least 1+ years of experience working as an ecologist within a professional consultancy;
  • Have, or be working towards a minimum of Associate membership of CIEEM;
  • Be able to demonstrate a ‘Capable’ level of competency in ecological surveys and reporting, as per the CIEEM skills framework;
  • A broad ecological skill set and ideally a holder of Jersey or UK protected species licenses;

Nurture Ecology were key for us in recommending many environmental enhancement measures that both helped our application pass and also should result in a real boost to the wildlife at our site. We found the whole team passionate about their work and always eager to listen and incorporate our plans. I would definitely recommend Nurture ecology for anyone looking for a similar service

We have worked together with Nurture Ecology on many of our developments across Jersey. The team are pragmatic and professional with their advice whilst maintaining a collaborative and friendly manner.  We would have no hesitation in recommending Nurture Ecology Limited

Nurture Ecology approached the project in a highly professional yet pragmatic manner, ensuring that all the necessary Planning and Parish requirements were fully met with the minimum of input from us. We wouldn’t hesitate to employ them again and can highly recommend them

Nurture Ecology were thorough in their approach enabling the development to progress in the safest of ways. The wildlife mitigation plans put into place have worked extremely well and Jersey Property Holdings are satisfied that the wildlife in the area will continue to thrive.

Jersey Electricity has employed Nurture Ecology for many projects over the past few years. We have worked with them on projects of varying sizes and complexity, involving both ecological consultancy work and land management works. Each time professional, clear and practical advice has been provided, allowing work to progress whilst minimising our impact on the local environment and prevent breach of any wildlife laws
