We are currently looking to recruit a Team Manager for our growing Nurture Habitats team.
Habitats Team Manager
We are looking to recruit an organised, level-headed and passionate person to lead our Habitats Team. The role will involve both office-based work and hands-on outdoor work, with the main focus being organising, communicating and overseeing the work the Habitats Team does, often working on the ground as part of the team, but also undertaking the administrative work associated with this role.
Ideal experience would include:
- You must be a strong, fair and motivated leader, ideally with demonstrable experience of leading a team
- A love and passion for nature and the environment, ideally with a Batchelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Science or Conservation Biology
- Highly organised yet flexible to be able to run a busy team and several jobs at one time
- A deep understanding of local habitat management including timing and techniques in order to get work done efficiently but sensitively, with the best interest for local wildlife always as the main focus of the work we do
- Demonstrable habitat management skills using chainsaws, brushcutters, strimmers, hand tools etc across different habitat types
- Effective computer skills (mainly Word and Excel) to work efficiently in an office
- A desire to motivate and help grow and develop the Habitats Team, including branching into new sectors such as Green Infrastructure
- Ideally experience in machinery and tool maintenance
- A full driving licence
- Local residency (5 Years)
Managing and motivating the team will be the main focus of this role, but will also involve pricing, organising, running and overseeing various habitat management jobs and infrastructure works across all natural habitat types in Jersey, including a hands-on element of working on these jobs yourself. The office and administration side of the position will include scheduling and organising work, meeting clients, keeping timesheets, material procurement, tool and machinery maintenance, writing risk assessments, dealing with contractors etc.
The successful applicant must have a positive and outgoing outlook and a genuine desire to work in the conservation sector and manage and develop a team. The position is 42.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, but there can be flexibility on regular hours. Flexi time is also offered. The salary bracket is competitive and dependent on experience, and includes a vehicle and fuel. 23 days paid holiday plus all bank holidays is the starting allowance.
